Fully agree. Unfortunately, bikers in our area do not follow traffic rules with any consistency, and they pose a real hazard to pedestrian safety. They bike at top speeds on the sidewalks, they aggressively charge through red lights and walk signals, and they cruise the wrong way down the designated bike lanes. Because there is absolutely no enforcement of traffic rules for bikers, they bike wherever and whenever they want, with impunity. Without fair and regular enforcement of traffic rules, bike signals are not a useful addition to our infrastructure.

100% agree. As a pedestrian, it is more dangerous to cross the street when bikers are going than when cars. Most cars will stop at cross walks, bikers just speed by

The lights at this intersection are starting at different times but as far as I know they are for parallel traffic, not crossing traffic. So this is not about letting bikes go through crosswalks while pedestrians are crossing perpendicular to the bikes.

It is extremely common for cyclists to cross with walk lights – that is, parallel to pedestrians – and In many cases we have to do that to cross safely because there is no light for bicycles, nor is one needed. As far as I know that's not illegal as long as pedestrians are ceded the right of way (and I agree some cyclists don't give way to pedestrians as they should, though many of us do).

I do not think it is allowed at least from training from cycling community that I took. But easy enough, for bicycles to dismount and walk.

I have been hit by bikers numerous times, and many more close times.

For shared streets to work, all have to feel safe. I do not feel safe crossing while bikers speed past.

There is also a matter of bikes using either the walk like or the bicycle green to turn right while there are pedestrians in the crosswalk. I have not be hit there yet, but have had few near-misses

@tom1 the walk signal for pedestrians turns on for all crosswalks at the same time for this intersection so any bike going when the walk signal is on and the bike signal is red is going across an active crosswalk

When people report cars running red lights we don’t see people posting all the reasons why cats should be allowed to break the law but when people report bicyclists running red lights, we always see people posting about how they should be allowed to break the law.

Hmmmmmmm.

And right after we spent money installing special lights just for bicyclists to be informed of their responsibilities when sharing streets.

It’s really too bad some people are so selfish and irresponsible and some people feel the need to justify illegal behavior.

If a bike runs a red light they are putting themselves at risk of severe bodily harm or death. If a car runs a red light, they are putting everyone in their path at risk of severe bodily harm or death. Bikes should be making good choices and following traffic laws, but let's not pretend those two scenarios are in any way equivalent

You just made my point about how people will write in to justify/minimize illegal/dangerous behavior by bicyclists, thanks for doing so.

The whole point of the separated bike lanes and lights we for bicycles safety. If defeats the purpose if bikers do not take care of there safety (as well as others). Same goes for drivers.
